The Duke And I By Julia Quinn, Bridgertons #1 SHORT REVIEW

There were rules among friends, commandments, really, and the most important one was Thou Shalt Not Lust After Thy Friend’s Sister.

This trope is one of my favorites. I absolutely love the brother’s best friend trope. And this book fits it perfectly. It’s historical, so the FMC is innocent and the MMC is more experienced and of course, Simon is a broken hero, which is totally my thing. I actually read the first Bridgertons book because of the trope, and now I want to continue the series. Julia Quinn’s writing is amazing. But for now, I’m sticking with brother’s best friend or friend’s brother tropes—they’re exactly my comfort zone. In this book, the tension was amazing and the chemistry between Simon and Daphne was perfect. Their first intimate moment in the garden was just… wow. And then her brother showed up boom. Drama!

I watched all the Bridgerton series, and that’s actually what made me start reading the books. In the series, there’s a lot of focus on the side characters, but in the book, the story is much more centered on the FMC and MMC and I love that. I enjoy reading the main characters’ storyline without too many distractions. The book was perfect, but I do wish one particular scene from the show had made it into the book. The moment when Simon gets closer to her and asks if she’s ever touched herself that was such a powerful and intimate scene. I would’ve loved to see that in the book too.Actually, that scene made me curious—I wondered if it was part of the book or just added for the show. Unfortunately, it turned out to be just part of the series. Also I really liked to watch the period scene and the emotional crying scene. In the book, those moments are different, but I’m not going to give any spoilers! Honestly, in the book, it was great either way.

And if you say that’s because you lot barged into her home like a herd of mentally deficient sheep, I’m disowning all three of you.

Additionally, I really loved the family dynamic in this series. It was heartwarming to see how all of her brothers were so protective and genuinely cared for her. They were nervous for her, looked out for her, and you could truly feel the bond. It was such a joy to read. Violet and Daphne’s conversation before the wedding was such a good part to read it actually made me feel shy.
