Breathtaking By Bella Matthews ,Red Lips & White Lies #6 SHORT REVIEW

Of course I’m fucking pregnant. Leave it to Maddox Beneventi to have super sperm.

The reason I picked up this book was the accidental pregnancy trope. I actually love that in movies, dramas, and comics. I was hoping for that kind of energy, but it didn’t quite hit for me. I usually enjoy fake dating and marriage of convenience, and while this book had the latter, it leaned more into a second chance love vibe. It had the whole “I’ve loved you since we met five years ago, even though you rejected me and I’ve been with other people, including your cousin but I still love you” kind of drama. I get that you can move on with your life but after all that, if you say “it’s always been you,” it just feels a bit ridiculous to me. Or maybe not IDK. That’s just not my thing. I prefer first time meetings, slow burn, and if there’s a pregnancy, I like when it happens after they’ve slept together without realizing how deep their feelings will get. But if you’re into second chances and reunion stories, you’ll probably love this because there were definitely some beautiful, emotional scenes.

“That’s it,” Kenzie tells her, and I look up and watch the mirror behind my friend just in time to see my son enter the world. He’s small and red and perfect. And he’s crying the most beautiful sound I’ve ever heard. It’s strong and fast and loud. Our baby. “It’s a boy,” Kenzie announces, and I take what feels like my first breath since I walked in the room. “Is he okay?” Lennon asks through uncontrollable tears. She turns to me when no one answers her. “Maddox . . .” “He’s beautiful,” I whisper, holding her and in absolute fucking awe of this woman.

The baby was born with the father there—he helped the mother during labor, and honestly, that scene was everything. It was powerful and touching.

“I proposed to you once, Lennon. And you broke my fucking heart and asked me to walk away. Don’t ask again—because you won’t like my answer this time. I shouldn’t have agreed then. I should have fought harder for us. But I’m fighting now. And I’ll fight every day, if that’s what it takes. Marry me, principessa

-Maddox

Maddox was a great guy kind, protective, and willing to do anything for Lennon, even if that meant letting her go. He truly respected her choices, which was beautiful to read. But I just couldn’t feel the chemistry between them. Maybe it’s because of the whole second chance vibe it lacked that spark I usually look for. I prefer stories with more tension, awkward moments, and emotional messiness. You know, the kind of scenes that make you cringe and feel every heartbeat. This story was sweet, but a little too soft and smooth for me it felt like water, flowing gently but without the emotional punch I love.
