“Bro, I’m the closest thing you have to family other than your real family, I would never shit where I eat.”
-Slater
I love the brother’s friend trope and slow burn romance, but this story wasn’t slow burn at all. The book was only 187 pages, so it felt really fast paced. Because of that, I couldn’t really feel the chemistry between the characters. For me, the storyline wasn’t that weak except for her brother’s reaction after he found out, which I actually disliked. I wouldn’t say the plot was terrible, but it definitely could have been better. If the story had been developed as a slow burn, I think it would’ve had much more emotional impact. There was a hint of chemistry, but I never truly shipped them. The FMC was inexperienced, yet in their intimate scene, there wasn’t even a simple “Are you okay?” moment. His feelings came across more as lust than love, and that made it hard for me to connect with their relationship. Also, he was supposed to be a broken hero, but the book never really gave that the attention it deserved. His emotional damage was actually a big deal something that could’ve added real depth to the story but it was barely explored. It had the potential to be powerful, but it felt brushed aside. To be honest, if I never read it, I wouldn’t have missed much. It’s not a must-read, but if you’re out of books in this trope and just want something light and fast, it might be worth a shot.
